Double Dose | [Main Line Family Photographer]

One week after A’s senior portrait session, I returned to work with the whole family! B was home from college for the weekend, and we totally lucked out with the weather. Our session was in the morning and it was breezy and a bit chilly, but no worries, S family —I edited out all of the goosebumps! 🙂

Nancy at Coneflower Ranch - What lovely captures! Beautiful setting as well.

Beautiful | [Main Line Senior Photographer]

I’m running out the door to a session, but I just couldn’t wait to post a few sneak peek photos for this beautiful senior! We took advantage of the recent warm weather and the lovely scenery near her home. A was a great sport—I had some ideas that I’m sure she thought were crazy, but she went with it and it was worth it in the end! I hope she thinks so too!

I’m working with her and the rest of her family again tomorrow—we’re doing a family session too. Looking forward to it!

Green! | [Chester County Child Photographer]

So you may be wondering where I’ve been . . . I can’t believe my last post was almost six weeks ago! I’ve traveled many miles since then—some for fun, and some for business—and I hope to do a post about that soon. One of my travel destinations was Minnesota, and while there I did a photo session for a good friend.

K and I go way back . . . we met our freshman year of college at Concordia. We had a lot of fun times there, and after college we roomed together for several years. She met and married W, they have four beautiful kids, and the rest is history!

As I drove to their house, I was thinking about the look I wanted to get for their photos. One of the things I envisioned was one of K’s tow-headed daughters in a simple white dress, out in one of the fields on their property. K had no idea about that vision, but lo and behold, when I got there Miss I was wearing a white dress! We had wonderful weather and even more beautiful light! And . . . their field was actually green (hence the title of this post). I couldn’t believe how dry and brown everything was when I got back home!

I had a hard time narrowing things down for this post, so here’s an extended sneak peek . . . . This processing in this first photo is a little different than what I usually do, but the kids’ timeless clothing and the weathered garage just seemed to ask for a vintage-y feel.

K and W’s kids range in age from 13 on down to three, and I have to say that I love, Love, LOVE working with older kids! I still love babies and little ones too, but this was a fun treat. Unfortunately, Mr. I wasn’t as excited about the photo session as I was, but he did cooperate and we got some great shots of him. (Truthfully, I think it was the extended period of close proximity to his little sisters that he disliked, rather than me. At least that’s what I’m telling myself! 🙂 )

One way that I engaged Mr. I was to ask if he wanted to take some photos on his four-wheeler. I had to include one below so you could imagine him and me riding the ATV to our shooting location. I had my camera around my neck and my bag on my shoulder, and I was hanging on to him for dear life! I probably outweigh him by 100 pounds, and it was a bumpy, uphill ride to our location. Thankfully, we both made it intact and so did my gear!

Could they have a more photogenic family? I don’t think so, and you’ll understand why when you see the photo of K and W!

And just a few more. T, N, and little Miss I had a great time picking “flowers” (weeds) to incorporate into their photos, but they aren’t just girly-girls. They can keep up with their older brother, and they even have their own ATV! I love the last shot where they seem to be riding off into the sunset.

K and W, it was so great to see you both, and to spend time with your growing family. I wish we lived closer so we could get together more often!

Just for fun | [Chester County Portrait Photographer]

Yesterday, my husband and I went to the US Open at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. We chose to go to a practice day rather than the actual tournament for a couple reasons. One is because everyone is more relaxed. The crowds are smaller, the players are friendlier, and it’s just a nice atmosphere all around. And the second reason is so I could bring my camera! There’s a very strict no-camera policy during the tournament itself, but I was definitely not the only one lugging around a 70-200mm lens yesterday! In fact, we stood at the first tee for a while, and I ended up chatting with a couple other photographers about photo labs, shopping cart vendors, and white balance. I’m sure my husband was rolling his eyes at me, but we were within 20 feet of some of his favorite players so I don’ t think he really minded too much. 🙂

The other item that the tournament bans—even on practice days—is cell phones. I did miss my iPhone at times, but I have to say it was quite refreshing to not see everyone walking around staring at their devices for the entire day. I only spotted one cheater who somehow sneaked his in.

The weather was beautiful, but the light was bright and harsh. That’s why we stood at the first tee for so long—because it was in the shade and had better light! (Once a portrait photographer, always a portrait photographer!) The first photo below is the 11th hole. It doesn’t look all that long, but it’s 494 yards. I guess the people up near the clubhouse do look pretty small!

My husband credits David Leadbetter for the improvements he’s made in his game, so he was pretty excited to see him walk by. Judging by the look on his face, I don’t think Mr. Leadbetter was as excited to see my camera lens! The third photo is Graeme McDowell, last year’s US Open winner. Fred Funk is on the bottom left, and it’s easy to see why he’s a fan favorite. He definitely enjoyed playing to the crowd. And the last shot is K.J. Choi. Wikipedia says this about him: “Before picking up golf Choi was a competitive power lifter, being able to squat 350 pounds as a 95 pound 13 year-old teenager, thus aptly nicknamed “Tank” by South Koreans.” Wow!

Nancy at Coneflower Ranch - Great shots and what a terrific opportunity! I couldn’t help but smile at your story of chatting with other photographers, as you could gather from our “yard sale meeting”, I could do that all day with the same husband reaction. 🙂
